Ties That Bind: The Luxembourg American Experience
A film by Zach Steinbach and Ryan Allsop
It was February of last year
…when we first met Brian Martin, a contract historian based in Rockville, Maryland. His client (Mike Ansay), a Luxembourgish-American Wisconsinite, had years of energy, time, and personal finances invested in Lux history and research in the U.S., including the founding of the Luxembourg American Cultural Society and Museum in Belgium, WI.
Our first venture together was filming a series of video histories, capturing the stories of handpicked Lux-Americans, countrywide. This work is still ongoing.

Then right around Thanksgiving
…there was talk about a banquet in Luxembourg City and the launch of a foundation, with the mission to celebrate and strengthen Luxembourg-American ties and –
–hey… let’s make a film to really blow. the. lid. off the thing.
(The Luxembourg American Experience Foundation, that is.)
The next few months
…moved quickly. From concept development and zoom calls to scheduling interviews and booking flights. To interviews and editing. There was a lot to do in a short amount of time.
It was good to call in a friend.
Finally, on 23 May 2025 – Ties That Bind: The Luxembourg American Experience
…was debuted in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg, at the 400th Jubilee in honor of Our Lady of Luxembourg, to an eager audience of approximately three hundred Luxembourgers and Lux-American tourists. We are so grateful for this opportunity in helping launch the Luxembourg American Experience Foundation, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds.
